Request copies of certificates

West Sussex Registration Service can only issue certificates for events that took place in West Sussex from 1st July 1837. If the event did not occur in West Sussex , please order from the district where the event happened.

We cannot provide copy certificates for adoption or still birth records, these should be requested through the General Register Office.

During your application you will be asked to provide the following details:

• The full names at the time of the event for the certificate required.
• The date of the event – You must provide a full date (e.g. 06/04/1970).
• The name of place where the event took place.

Certificates for Marriages that have recently taken place in a Religious Building

If you have recently married in a church or other religious building, you will need to apply here for your certificate. Please note it can take up to 21 days for us to receive the paperwork from the person who conducted your ceremony.
